My Story
Amy Verhoeff
Amy Verhoeff is a Dutch artist specializing in creating realistic paintings. Her inspiration comes mainly from nature, people around her and the old Dutch masters. Therefore, the combination of man and nature is often seen in her work. What makes her paintings so recognizable and special is the detailed execution. This is well reflected in the series of paintings with the iridescent plastic and in the painting “grandpa” with which she won the Dutch portrait prize “Young talent award” in 2019.
In her earlier work, she made mostly drawings with graphite and pastels. Later she started working more and more with oil paint. Both techniques are now being combined by Amy. She does this by first creating a detailed black and white underdrawing over which several transparent layers of oil paint are later glazed.
Amy’s studio is located in an old long-gabled farmhouse in Dommelen, which used to belong to her grandparents. Her grandfather was also an artist and made sculptures from a mathematical perspective. His old workspace has been converted into her new studio with exhibition space. The property has a rich cultural and family history. Her grandfather’s artwork can be found throughout the studio and spacious garden.
Because Amy believes art goes beyond paper, she also processes her work in other ways. Thus, several collaborations and projects have emerged.
